Is Mrs. Meyers Vinegar Gel No-Rinse Cleaner any good? More importantly, where or how can you use it, and is it worth the purchase?

Short Answer: Yes. In several places and for several different cleaning applications. Oh, and yes, especially if you have hard water issues to deal with. 🙂

Keep reading to find out why and learn plenty of how-to tips and ways you can use the product that aren’t always advertised or commonly known.

What is Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar Gel?

Mrs-Meyers-Vinegar-Gel-bottle-next-to-a-Dobie-sponge-for-an-indepth- Review

Mrs Meyers Vinegar Gel No-Rinse Cleaner is touted as a hard-working, concentrated “specialty” gel-type cleanser that combats hard water stains and soap residue.

What Is It?

  • Vinegar-based decalcifier and cleaner
  • Lemon verbena scent instead of vinegar
  • Has moderate deodorizing benefits
  • Works somewhat like a vinegar-and-dish-soap hack

The Main Appeal

The main draw of Mrs. Meyer’s plant-based vinegar gel—aside from its effectiveness for certain types of cleaning and almost gravity-defying capabilities— is that you can barely smell any vinegar, if at all, while reaping the benefits of many DIY vinegar-based cleaning methods or hacks.

Instead, you get that iconic, fresh-smelling lemon verbena scent Mrs. Meyers is already well-known for in some of their products.

Best of Both Worlds

It’s sort of like mixing some vinegar to get the descaling and other benefits of vinegar with the “fighting power” of Dawn—minus the hassle, questionable chemistry, always needing to rinse, and vinegar odor concerns.

Plus, you get to toss in some good lemon verbena aromatherapy at the same time as an extra incentive to clean. Because, why not?

Tough hard-water stain from a steam setting for our LG oven.

The Mrs. Meyer’s company vaguely states that their No-Rinse Vinegar Gel Cleaner can help to remove hard water stains, soap residue, and water spots.

Ideal Cleaning Treatments

  • Hard water stains
  • Moderate mineral buildup
  • Mild degreaser (i.e., stovetops)
  • Soap residue
  • Hard water spots
  • General cleaner

The Dynamic Duo

The vinegar gel is commonly seen and even used alongside Mrs. Meyer’s Baking Soda Paste, which is another fantastic reverse-dupe of many DIY cleaning methods, similar to Soft Scrub in liquid form. Stay tuned for our review on that soo

Note: While some people like to use DIY vinegar cleaners to “disinfect” their homes, this product is not advertised for actual disinfecting purposes.

When It May or May Not Be Ideal

Here are some situations where Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar Gel in Lemon Verbena may or may not be suitable and who might or might not benefit from it the most.

Might Benefit

  • People who have hard-water cleaning issues to deal with, such as calcification buildup (moderate), hard water staining and spots, and soap scum issues.
  • Ideal surfaces might include ovens, stovetops, windows, shower door tracks or hinges, glass in showers, shower walls, and some plumbing fixtures (may not do as well on plastic).
  • Those who want to avoid harsher chemicals and want something that isn’t overly vinegar-y or fume-y.

Might Not Benefit

  • Severe calcification or staining may require something more heavy-duty.
  • Some people may not like Mrs. Meyer’s Lemon Verbena scent.
  • Due to the thin consistency of the gel, which helps with the no-rinse features of the product yet hinders spreadability, it may not be suitable to use on large surfaces. It functions better as a spot treatment.
  • Severe staining or buildup from minerals may require extra tools, such as a drill-powered brush or a cleaner that’s more heavy-duty.
  • If you’re trying to clean something like a kettle or coffeemaker, look for food-safe products that are designed for those kinds of items. Good examples might include products like Durol or similar.

FAQs

Have questions about Mrs. Meyers Vinegar Gel No-Rinse Cleaner? We’ve got your back! Check out the Internet’s most frequently asked questions (FAQs) to see if we’ve got your answers.

1. Can you use Mrs. Meyer’s with bleach?

If you’re wondering if you can mix Meyer’s Vinegar Gel with bleach, the answer would be a definite no. In fact, the Meyer’s website specifically states: “No, our products are not meant to be mixed with any other chemical.”

2. Can you use Mrs Meyers’ Vinegar Gel on stainless steel?

Yes, you can use Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar Gel on stainless steel. However, if your stainless steel has a coating on it, you may not get the same, or even ideal results when compared to uncoated surfaces.

3. Can you use Mrs. Meyer’s vinegar gel in your hair as a hair rinse?

Nope! Please don’t do it!

If you’re looking to do a hair clarifying rinse to get the gunk and buildup out, stick to haircare products or natural DIY methods (i.e., regular vinegar or dilute lemon juice)., which is what I use.

You can also use a clarifying shampoo or vinegar-based hair care products, such as these options by Aveeno and Head and Shoulders, both of which are great (especially the Head and Shoulders).

The Aveeno product also works great for maintenance cleaning the shower. 🙂

4. Can you use Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar Gel on granite?

According to their website, it’s safe to use the gel on granite and stone, providing the surface is adequately sealed.

5. Can you use Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar with Mrs. Meyer’s Baking Soda Cream Cleaner?

Yes, while mixing both together would likely cancel the effects–just as it would to mix baking soda (alkaline) and vinegar (acidic) otherwise–you can use one before or after the other to gain benefits from both products.

We typically like to decalcify items as necessary using the Vinegar Gel and then follow up the Baking Soda Cream Cleaner to scrub, such as you might do with Soft Scrub or Bon Ami.

Where to Find

You can typically find Mrs. Meyers Vinegar Gel Cleaner online through store retailers like Walmart and Amazon. However, Mrs. Meyer’s Baking Soda Paste and Vinegar Gel can sometimes be hard to find local brick-and-mortar, making it a good idea to check ahead to see if they’re in stock.

Tips for Using

Have questions about Mrs. Meyers Vinegar Gel No-Rinse Cleaner? We’ve got your back! Check out the Internet’s most frequently asked questions (FAQs) to see if we’ve got your answers.

  1. Let the vinegar gel sit on the surface long enough to do its job. You may need to leave it on for up to 30 minutes or more for severe cases.
  2. Despite its no-rinse claim, make sure to thoroughly wipe or rinse any surface that might come into contact with food, once you’re cleaning with Mrs. Meyer’s Vinegar Gel. This includes items that may not do so well with any leftover products, such as ovens, microwaves, dishwashers, and stovetops.
  3. For tough stains or heavy mineral buildup, consider using a powered brush such as the toothbrush-sized Rubbermaid Reveal Power Scrubber or a drill-powered cleaning brush attachment when safe to do so.
  4. Consider using the baking soda paste alongside the vinegar (but don’t mix) to gain the unique benefits of both vinegar and baking soda.
  5. If you’re struggling to fully get rid of residual mineral staining, carefully try to heat up the stain or the surface that it’s on first. This can typically be done using plain hot water or another method of your choice. Just make sure that whatever method you use won’t hard the surface you’re trying to clean, and consider wearing heat-protective gloves to avoid burns.
    • If you’re working on shower glass, just take a shower and you’re ready to go. You can clean it when you’re done or whenever is best.
