ChomChom Fur-Remover Lint Roller | Is It the Best Roller?

The ChomChom Roller Pet Hair Removal Tool does not require any refills. You just empty the waste bin of any debris once it’s full or as desired. Then give it the occasional wipe down with a clean and lightly damp cloth or towel when dirty.

You may, however, need to occasionally replace the ChomChom if the gadget wears down naturally over time. This isn’t something we’ve yet to experience, but a few customers reported needing to do so—although most didn’t seem to mind.

Yes. However, you may have trouble with certain surfaces, materials, or angles. This is due to its size and the way it works, using electrostatic via quick, short motions back and forth.

While the ChomChom may work okay on things such as car seats or low-pile carpeting, it will only clean the top of certain surfaces and specific types of debris. It won’t vinyl everything nor suck out dirt and debris from beneath fabric surfaces.

Because of this, we feel that something like a handheld vacuum or stick vacuum that can convert to a handheld is a better choice for cars—mainly if your vehicle accumulates a lot of dirt, debris, or fur.

The manufacturer of ChomChom suggests that you do not submerge the ChomChom in water or get it wet, as this might cause the roller to rust or cause unnecessary damage.

Instead, they recommend wiping the roller portion clean using a lightly damp towel or cloth and allowing it to air dry. We like to use a lightly damp microfiber cloth since it can help trap dirt and debris naturally, but we rarely need to clean it, if at all.

Because the ChomChom roller requires quick and short back-and-forth motions to create its electrostatic charge, which helps it attract and trap hair and certain types of debris, it may not work as well on curtains or drapes as it would on flatter and more solid surfaces.

Other Methods to Try
1) A clothes steamer for delicate drapes or curtains (when safe to do so).
2) Sticky tape lint rollers can also be helpful as well as handheld vacuums or vacuums with the appropriate attachments.
3) Washable curtains can sometimes be de-furred by tossing them into the dryer on a low-heat to no-heat setting.
4)Washable curtains or durable drapes may also do well on the steam Refresh setting, for those who have a steam feature on their dryer.

Some find it useful to use a dry or barely moist sponge or microfiber cloth to remove pet hair.
Rubber or vinyl gloves can sometimes be helpful for removing lint and pet hair from drapes and curtains.

When in doubt, try to follow the manufacturer’s care instructions.

The ChomChom Roller Fur Remover can sometimes work on clothing while in a pinch. However, this can depend on the material that’s involved.

We’ve been able to do it with clothing on our bodies to some extent, and sometimes with thicker or heavier items laid out on a flat or solid surface while pulled tautly, but we wouldn’t recommend it as the most efficient method.

This is because the ChomChom requires that back-and-forth motion to create an electrostatic charge for it to work properly. Achieving this may be hard to do on soft or flimsy surfaces, such as clothing or loose fabrics.

When people may want to remove hair and lint from clothing, we find that sticky lint tape rollers are usually the best way to go. It can also sometimes help to use a dry sponge or regular sticky tape (we love packing tape for lampshades and dining chairs).

Some find it useful to use a clothes steamer in cases where delicate fabrics might be in question. If you’re dealing with pilling, which people sometimes confuse with lint when it’s more the material being snagged or damaged, you may prefer to use a pilling remover tool.

Will the ChomChom roller clean rugs? Yes and no.

The ChomChom roller won’t clean in the same sense as a standard or handheld vacuum would. It also won’t be able to pick up much else besides hair and maybe some fine debris from the surface of the rug or carpet. The roller also won’t be able to suck up anything from within the carpet fibers as a vacuum would be able to achieve.

If, however, you simply want to pick up hair or lint and prefer power-free floor gadgets for this, then you might prefer to try the ChomChom XL, which is basically the ChomChom with a long pool attachment.

There are also other floor lint rollers and floor sweepers. Manual push floor sweepers also use the same electrostatic method as the ChomChom and ChomChom XL, though some sweepers may come with more bells and whistles and may even be a little more efficient.

Some people who own the ChomChom Roller Fur Remover have reported that it can work on loose couch covers when the fabric is held taut.

Still, it may be more efficient to use another device such as a handheld vacuum with an upholstery attachment or tape roller.

If pilling is more of a concern (damaged material such as strands or nubs that don’t easily come off), then you may prefer to use a pilling tool or remover.

Loose fabric materials may not be something that the ChomChom can handle as efficiently as well as it does more solid surfaces. Examples of this might include curtains, loose couch covers, clothing, and so forth.

This is because it creates an electric charge to attract fur and debris, which usually requires fast back-and-forth motions.

However, we have been able to clean off fur from blankets, quilts, and duvets while they lay flat on a bed or couch, thanks to the more solid surface of the furniture, and pulled tautly.

Some exceptions might include faux fur varieties or super textures blankets, such as waffle weave knit or similar.

The ChomChom roller is more like a floor sweeper, both of which work by creating an electrostatic charge to pick up debris by using quick, short back-and-forth movements.

The ChomChom roller, like electrostatic rollers and floor sweepers, does not usually have a motor nor run off any batteries.

Because of this, electrostatic gadgets like the ChomChom Roller Fur Remover wouldn’t replace a vacuum cleaner, even a popular handheld vacuum, because of the lack of suction and agitation found in most vacuums.

Fortunately, there are plenty of affordable handheld vacuums available, such as these popular pet-related choices found here, if that’s something you’d prefer.

The ChomChom roller can’t be used on animals—especially since there you wouldn’t be able to generate enough electrostatic charge to do the job, and trying might injure your pet.
